Key takeaways
- IONITY, the high-power charging network founded by the BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and the Volkswagen Group, has selected Atlar to manage its cash and loan facilities.
- The network runs around 900 sites in 24 countries and plans to more than double its charging points by 2030, funded by up to €600 million in green loans from nine banks.
- One direct connection will cover IONITY's accounts across Europe and link them to SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud. The loan facilities will move into Atlar's debt management, so the cash forecast shows what's owed to lenders and when.
- AI agents will check each quarter's interest and fees against the facility terms, with nothing paid until someone approves it. The first payments are due before the end of the year.
IONITY, the high-power charging network backed by some of the world's largest carmakers, has selected Atlar to manage its cash and loan facilities, connected to its bank and SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.
The carmakers' own fast-charging company
IONITY was founded in Munich in 2017 by the BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and the Volkswagen Group so EV drivers could charge quickly on Europe's highways. Hyundai Motor Group and Kia joined later, and BlackRock invested in 2021.
The network now has around 900 sites and over 6,500 high-power charging points in 24 countries. In February, IONITY switched on its first megawatt systems, which add up to 300 kilometers of range in about eight minutes. It plans to more than double the number of charging points by the end of 2030, and to fund the build-out it secured up to €600 million in green loans from nine international banks, the largest loan the European charging industry had seen at the time.
One platform for the loans and the cash
A loan that size brings interest and fees to calculate every quarter. IONITY runs its treasury from a lean setup, as one German entity with branches in 23 other countries and almost all of its banking with a single partner. It has now chosen Atlar to manage the loan facilities alongside its cash.
Atlar builds and maintains its own bank connections, so one direct connection will cover IONITY's accounts across Europe, passing statements into SAP and sending payments out from it. The loan facilities move into Atlar's debt management, so the cash forecast will show what's owed to lenders and when.
Meanwhile, AI agents will work from the same live data, in preset workflows or ones the team builds around its own treasury policy. One can check each quarter's interest and fees against the facility terms, with nothing paid until someone approves it.

What the team says
Matthias Rehm, Head of Controlling and Corporate Finance at IONITY, says:
“Following the financing, we needed a solution that could support the growing complexity of our treasury operations. Seamless integration with our banking partners and SAP was a key requirement for us, and ultimately what made Atlar stand out.”
The first payments are due to go through Atlar before the end of the year, with FX risk management to follow. It's a particular pleasure to work with a company putting chargers along Europe's highways.
Isar Aerospace, Mangopay, and Tide are among the other companies that run their treasury on Atlar alongside SAP S/4HANA. To see how it would work for your team, book a demo or contact us.
